carbon composites for marine

Pauger Carbon Composites, Black Pepper Yachts and Microtex Composites:
high-performance carbon composites for marine market

Today, marine is one of the main sectors of application related to carbon composites. The new generations of yachts, and racing crafts in general, can achieve better performances with our materials.
We are able to answer to the increasing needs of the nautical market with a wide range of composite products. In particular, these products (such as prepreg systems with low-temperature polymerization) can be successfully used for masts, hulls and booms.

Which are the main advantages of composite materials in the marine market?

  • Environmental resistance
  • Ability to mould seamless, complex shaped structures
  • Low maintenance and ease of repair
  • Excellent durability
  • Lightness
  • Aesthetic features
  • Functionality

Code 3 project

Recently, we had the pleasure to cooperate with Pauger Carbon Composites and Black Pepper to realize their ambitious project of the Black Pepper Yacht’s 72-footer cruiser racer (Code 3).

Code 3 is a Racer-Cruiser designed by Sam Manuard.
This new unit fits as usual, in the very exclusive spirit of Codes by Black Pepper®. Inspired by the latest hull generation – 100‘ oceanic racers – it is geared to cruise and offshore race. Its style and charm results from the alliance of old and modern lines, the original signature of Black Pepper® (dog house, teak deck …). On board nothing is left apart: ergonomics, maneuvers, equipment, living space, cabins, bathrooms, tender garage, cockpit lounge. Everything is designed to ensure owners, comfort, safety and autonomy.

The companies have chosen HM and UHM unidirectional on which E3-150 matrix has been applied. E3-150 is a thermosetting epoxy resin designed for structural applications.

Why E3-150 is so WOW

  • Good mechanical performances
  • High toughness
  • Biological compatibility
  • Radiotrasparency, radiofrequency shielding

Pauger uses our carbon prepreg for mast manufacturing. They have recently built a carbon mast and carbon boom for Black Pepper Yacht’s 72-footer cruiser racer (Code 3) out of ultra-high modulus carbon fibre prepreg supplied by us.
All the fittings are custom made titanium and the mast is equipped with carbon standing rigging, also produced by Pauger Carbon.

Feedback from the customer
